Do you believe the Constitution is the rule of law? Do you believe in the original intent of our founding fathers? Do you want to reform Congress? If your answer is yes, we have to work together to make this happen.

We appear to agree on one thing, namely that health is largely a matter of personal responsibility. However, sometimes people get sick or get hurt and need to depend on others to help them take care of themselves. So, for instance, a week ago I fell off a ladder and fractured my pelvis. I had not planned on that happening, but it did.

I was quite grateful that my wife and daughter were there to help me call 911, as I could not move. I was grateful that some bleeding heart liberal some time ago decided that it would be a good idea to have a mobile medical team available to anyone who might need it which could be summoned by means of a phone call. Thank you socialism!

Now I am also glad that I have some decent private health care insurance that will be paying a large portion my medical bills. Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey is regulated by both the governments of New Jersey and the Federal Government because it engages in interstate commerce. You got a problem with that?

The US government already runs a British-style national health care service -- it is called the VA system which you mention. It also runs a Canadian-style national health insurance program for senior citizens, called Medicare, and for people who are impoverished or disabled, called Medicaid. So excuse me if I can not get frightened about governments, either state or federal, developing a public health insurance programs that would be offered to the 47 million Americans who are not presently insured by either private health insurance or one of the existing governmental programs.

BTW, do you have any actual work related responsibilities?

1. Community ambulance teams are not socialist. Just because something is a collectively supported service does not mean it is socialist. Or, put another way, we might say that socialism is acceptable at the municipal level.

2. Finding a Constitutional mandate for Congress's action is a necessary but not sufficient cause for their action. In this case, I would have to know what regulations are imposed by the federal government before I can agree or disagree with its legitimacy. Most likely, it falls into the category of legitimate action but politically undesirable. That is, Congress has the authority but I think they shouldn't do it, anyway.

3. Where is the data for this 47 million number? How many of those are transitory, how many of those can afford insurance but choose not to buy it, and how many of those are not U.S. citizens?

4. The VA system is terrible. God help the rest of us if everyone is subject to that nightmare. Medicare from what I can tell from the above linked source is covering less and less of its enrolees' expenses while sinking itself into a deeper and deeper financial hole.

I don't have that much to do on a daily basis. Most of my duties are administrative and as you can imagine there is a sort of Groundhog Day feeling out here.

BTW, how's the pelvis coming along? And what on earth were you doing on a ladder?
